Ashley Talbot said she had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her pit bull, Blue, to sleep. She then turned to Angel Paws Pet Cremation in San Marcos, San Diego County, believing they would handle Blue’s remains with care. That was more than four weeks ago, yet she has heard nothing since.

Despite repeated emails, Talbot has received no response from the company. When Eyewitness News attempted to reach Angel Paws for comment, they discovered the phone line had already been disconnected.

“It’s horrible because this is my son,” Talbot said through tears. “To know that he’s somewhere, and I can’t go pick him up, and I can’t bring him home safe, and to not have control over it is very hard.”

According to Talbot, the business owner personally picked up Blue along with other pets, leaving her convinced that multiple families may now be experiencing the same anguish. “I’m not sure how many pets went with Blue, but I know that the owner has a lot of pets that are frozen and ready to be sent home. He knows all the information because he picked up all the animals himself,” she explained. “I just don’t know why he doesn’t tell us.”

Talbot also noted that she paid more than $400 for cremation services that were never completed. Yet she insists her fight is not about money. “It’s not just the more than $400 I paid. It’s not knowing where Blue is right now,” she said.

Her message to the business owner was simple and direct: “I understand you came to a hard time. But understand us; just let us get our pets.”

For Talbot, the uncertainty has only intensified her grief. She continues to mourn Blue while struggling with the added pain of not knowing where his remains are. What was meant to be a service of dignity and closure has instead left her and other families facing unanswered questions and heartache.

The sudden closure of Angel Paws has also raised broader concerns about oversight and accountability in the pet cremation industry. Families like Talbot’s put their trust in businesses to treat their animals with respect in their final moments. When that trust is broken, the emotional toll is immeasurable.

As she continues to wait for answers, Talbot holds onto the hope that she and other grieving pet owners will eventually be reunited with their pets’ remains. For now, she faces each day carrying the weight of both loss and uncertainty.
